How to make your own language course

To make your own language course, pick content you want to understand — an article, a book chapter, song lyrics or your notes — extract the new words, add translations and example sentences, and turn them into quizzes you review daily. QuackPath does this automatically: paste or import any text and it builds a personal course in seconds.

Key points

Why build your own course

Ready-made courses teach the same words to everyone. A course built from your own material teaches the words you will actually meet: the vocabulary of your job, your hobby, your favourite series or the book you are reading. Because you care about the material, you are more likely to keep going.

Choosing the material

Good material is slightly above your level, interesting to you, and short enough to finish: one article, one chapter, one song. Avoid starting with something so hard that every second word is new.

Building the course by hand

Read the text and mark unknown words. For each, write the meaning that fits the context and copy the sentence it came from. Group the words into small sets, make flashcards or a quiz from them, and review them on a spaced schedule. Come back to the original text at the end and read it again.

Building it with QuackPath

QuackPath does the same steps for you. Paste or import a text, choose the language, and it creates a personal course with the vocabulary, translations, example sentences and quizzes, ready to review on your phone. You can make as many courses as your plan allows from articles, books, lyrics or notes.

Make your own language course

  1. Pick your content. Choose an article, book chapter, song lyrics or your own notes in the language you are learning.
  2. Extract new words. Mark the words you do not know yet.
  3. Add translations and examples. Write the meaning that fits the context and keep the example sentence.
  4. Turn it into quizzes. Make flashcards or quizzes from the words.
  5. Review daily. Review the words on a spaced schedule and reread the original text at the end.

Play the free Weekly Challenge

The QuackPath Weekly Challenge is a free daily word game you can play right here in your browser, with no account. Most weeks bring a new puzzle every day, and the game itself changes every Sunday. In Hatch you guess the word of the day: after each guess, the tiles show which letters are in the right spot and which are in the word but somewhere else. In Flock you sort 16 words into four groups, in Echo you hear a sentence and rebuild it, and in Dash you fill in the gaps against the clock. Pick one of 15 languages: your own or the one you are learning. Scoreboards, friends and streaks live in the QuackPath app.

How to play

Hatch: guess the hidden word

Type a word that fills every tile and send it. After each guess, a purple tile with a dot means the letter is in the right spot, an orange ring means it is in the word but in another spot, and a grey tile means it is not in the word. Every guess must be a real word, and after 3 tries a hint can show the meaning for a few points. In the English puzzle, words are currently 4 to 6 letters long and you get 6 tries.

Flock: sort 16 words into 4 groups

Find four groups of four among 16 words. Tap four words that belong together, then send them. Each group has its own colour, from easy to tricky, and “One away” means three of your four belong together. You can make 4 mistakes. Hold a word to hear it, and every group you find is labelled in your language.

Echo: listen and rebuild the sentence

Tap the speaker to hear a sentence; the first listen is free. Then tap the words in the order you heard them, and tap a placed word to take it back. You have 3 checks for each sentence. A replay, a slow replay and each word in the wrong place cost a few points, so listen closely before you tap.

Dash: fill the gaps against the clock

Tap the word that fits the gap, and the next sentence comes at once. The race lasts 90 seconds and keeps running even if you leave the page, and a wrong answer costs 2 seconds. Right answers in a row build a combo, and your best combo adds points. Finish with enough right answers to solve the puzzle.

Learning a language?

Keep the menus in English and play the puzzle in the language you are learning. The words come from QuackPath’s course vocabulary. In Hatch, the hint shows the word’s meaning in English, and in Flock every group you find is labelled in English.
